2010 witnessed a sudden growth of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified projects in Lebanon. Lebanon ranks seventh on the list of registered LEED projects in the Arab countries, while United Arab Emirates comes in first and boasts a total of 720.
Sustainability takes into consideration three different dimensions: economic, social, and environmental. Some sustainability measures that were taken into account, include minimizing the projects’ water consumption by using low-water fixtures and rainwater harvesting; reducing energy usage through highly energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems; improving internal thermal comfort as well as indoor environmental quality by promoting a smoke-free building and low-toxicity paint and finishes; and establishing a Green Cleaning Policy and a Recycling Policy.
According to Beirut Energy Forum, a few of the projects in Lebanon include banks, residential complexes, offices, schools, as well as an entire neighborhood. These are twelve of the LEED certified projects in Lebanon.

Audi Plaza, the LEED certified bank located in Beirut Central District is a proud recipient of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED Operation & Maintenance Platinum Award.
Audi Plaza (Mixed Use: Town Quay), another holder of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED Core & Shell certificate is located in Marina.
Beirut Harbor, Saifi offices have received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED Core & Shell certificate.
Palladium, located in Bab Idriss, Beirut Central District is an office building with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED commercial interiors Silver certificate.
International College (IC) Elementary School, Bliss. The first LEED certified school in the country.
Mika Real Estate Buildings, Mina al Hosn, Beirut Central District. On September 21, 2010, MIKA Real Estate was the 1st building in Lebanon to obtain the LEED Pre-Certification for the Gold rating, based on the US Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED sustainability standards. Its current aspiration is to achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED Core & Shell 2009 “Gold” certificate.
